ALT.01

ALT.01
Head of industrial and interface design for the ALT analog soundscape synthesizer. This instrument is specialized in musical sound design. ALT is the first product from the Paris-based Cyma Forma company.

After 2 years of research, development and prototyping, the final product’s identity tends towards a transparent design, gradually revealing the heart of the object: its PCB and electronic components. The final version will soon be unveiled and ALT will be available for pre-order from May 22, 2024.

Álfar

Álfar
Álfar investigates how to make long-term, high-density information storage technologies more tangible. Working in the context of cultural heritage, the project allows institutions to keep their archives alive using DNA data storage for generations to come.

Through a process of design research, the Future Heritage project explores how to make this synthetic DNA storage relevant for institutions today and far into the future. The resulting DNA storage object is designed to withstand environmental and societal changes over the next two thousand years. Using nano-engraving and a semiological approach, the object gives tangible hints and previews of the rich content that lies within it.

Investigating the fields of everyday music discovering, this analog player rethinks the digital access of “Les Chineurs”, an archive accumulated over the last 5 years by an amateur community that exchanges rare or forgotten musical works across social networks.

The online community, which shares links from differents online music platform (eg. Youtube, Soundcloud or Bandcamp) to Facebook, currently faces an interface challenge. Therefore, design principles have been developed to deal with sorting issues, giving the possibility of going back in time via a simple interface and, among other features, preventing the mortality of musical piece’s URLs by detecting and repairing broken links.

PG.01
Inspired by eurythmics, PG.01 explores new types of interaction and experience in music learning for young children, in school or at home. Through an iterative process of research, observation, prototyping and user testing a series of musical instruments and tools were developed.

In association the Jacques-Dalcroze Institute, the focus was on identifying new interactions in music education through usability and materiality. Thinking of a new ecosystem without changing all teaching and learning habits: combining traditional practices (such as paper assignments and already present artefacts) with more encouraging and playful interactions through digital technologies.

T.01 Pad

T.01 Pad
The TP.01 controllers were developed after many school children and their teachers were forced to learn and teach remotly.

Once switched on, the object is recognized as a keyboard by any tablet or computer. A Gyroscope, accelerometer and capacitive sensor are translated into ASCII and Key Code. The use of HID protocol (stable since 1997) allow immediate use, without pre-configuration, or fear of incompatibility. By simply receiving a pre-welded MCU at home, children then build the casing with local resources: cardboard, elastic, scratch and paperclip. Each has a modular tool to engage their global and fine motricity and attempt to improve the remote learning experience.

BodySynth

BodySynth
Body Synth is a web platform-installation that generates a musical sequence by capturing the body positions and movements of the performer. Facial coordinates are used to create a melody. The position of the limbs allows to set the different volumes and effects. There is no limit to the number of participating musicians, as long as they are in the camera's scope.

Based on the machine learning principle and relying on the ML5.js library, this device requires only the native webcam of a computer, tablet or mobile as well as a web server. After an in-situ introduction, an online version is planned in the next months.

CGS.01

CGS.01
GCS.01 is a generative music web radio based on live weather data from a location on Earth.

Initially presented as an installation where the participant was invited to choose a geographical area and then modulate the sound according to meteorological parameters (i.e. pressure, temperature, humidity) with the help of a local server and the SonicPi live coding software, a online version is currently being developed. The project can be recreated with the help of the hardware and software plan made available. The object can be recreated with laser cutting in the nearest MakerSpace and with the OSTBIT bamboo tray available from the furniture chain IKEA.

MF.01c

MF.01c
MF.01c is a musical instrument to understand different states of the magnetic field and to interpret them through musical composition.

Analog or digital instruments can be used as transmitters or receivers of the magnetic flux. The object can be used as an educational tool as well as an experimental musical instrument. The hardware and software documentation of this project is available under a free license. The object can be recreated with laser cutting in the nearest MakerSpace and with the VARIERA bamboo cutlery tray available from the furniture chain IKEA.
